You will encounter different types of enemies on the battlefield requiring different types of attacks and moves to defeat. To take on a Laser Enemy:

Laser enemies emit powerful laser beams that cannot be dodged.

Laser enemies will turn green when charging up an attack.

Raise your Gamma Gear in front of you to block.

You'll avoid taking damage, but your block will only stay active for a short time.
